Turning Heads Linkup -More Velvet for the Holidays- and Ways to Style It

There is more velvet in store! Yes, I love this fabric, especially around the Holiday season.

This Outfit for the Holidays

You might be inclined to reach for black with burgundy ,but give it another go.

I started this look with the jacket that is ages old, bought secondhand, as is every one of my velvet blazers.

The boots gave me the idea. There are bits of rust, burgundy, navy and gold in these brocade Franco Sarto boots and I knew just the sleeveless dress to pair it with.

My Mango sleeveless dress has been styled various times on the blog and I find that I can style for any season.

The beaded necklace was gifted to me last year by Earth and Moon Design. “It was inspired by Chanel’s Cafe Society collection and the styles of the 20s.” You can read about it HERE.

Other ways of styling-

A velvet blazer, such as this, can begins the making of a wonderful outfit for the Winter or spiced up for the Holidays.

Wear it more casually with a pair of dark denim and a bodysuit . Nothing to tuck in, and a very sharp look. Add some sparkle with your accessories and perhaps as black strappy or mettalic shoe.

Pair it with a pair of black trousers, a silk blouse and pumps. There is nothing like the look of luxe materials to look smart for an occassion.

Try mixing your velvet blazer with a sparkly sequined top, black jeans and a pair of classic heels. Add gold or silver jewelry for sparkle, depending on your coloring.

If your velvet jacket is longer, pair it with some faux leather leggings or if you feel especially festive, some sequined leggings. A neutral colored blouse will be lovely with this look.

Holiday Happening

Well, I just came home from spending two weeks at my mom’s in Pittsburgh. Let’s just say, after 20 years in the Carolinas, I forgot how darn cold it gets in Pittsburgh! I did dress in layers and took my boy, Gibson out for walks each day, but when you fingers start to hurt and your ears turn red, it’s cold! Had a great time there and I got to chat and spend time with my younger brother Matt. We visited a Winery that looked like a castle and enjoyed several meals out. My nephew Aedan, is 4, and I got to help him build puzzles and spend some quality time with him too.

We are now in NC and it took a few days for me to recuperate. I am grateful I have dry needling Wednesday. Car rides are not my favorite, but until I can flap my wings and fly with my dogs on my back, that is what I have to do. (They would be too nervous on a plane)

The next stop will be Harleysville, PA for Christmas to visit hubby’s family. I am just getting around to decorating and have done some this weekend. Hoping to make Rania’s Gingerbread Biscotti, which sounds so good!

I’m a fan of velvet as well. I’m particularly partial to those vintage 90s velvet mock neck pieces. Any time I find one, they go into my vintage shop, immediately. They go with everything, and always look good, even right out of a suitcase!

This is such a rich look, Jess. I love the rust and burgundy together. Tres chic, my friend! Great tips, too. Isn’t it funny how we have to recuperate AFTER traveling?!! Lol! It’s worth it, though! Sounds like you guys are really enjoying the season.

I love your entire outfit especially your shoes! I have not seen anything quite like it and they are very unique. Sounds like a fun holiday vacation coming up fo you guys! I agree though that car rides aren’t so much fun. Especially if it’s way too long or with a “kid(s)” in tow. I think getting them settled and to just relax takes so much energy! I hope your week is going well so far.

Those boots are so cool! And I absolutely love the rich color combo in this outfit. You’re right, the orange is so much more interesting than just black paired with burgundy! The velvet is so luxe too.

Such a pretty outfit! I love that color combination. Pinning! My mom and I flew from Vegas to Asheville with our pets. She gave her cat a sedative. Valentino was just fine, but irritated that he wasn’t in my lap. The flight attendant allowed me to put his carrier on my lap, and pet him. Then he was fine. While Valentino is fine in the car as well, 4 days on the road with a cat sounded awful.

These colors are so pretty on you! They really work for the holidays. I wouldn’t have thought of pairing burgundy/red hues with the peach dress, but I really love how they work together. Those boots are so cute! And, I love that velvet blazer!

Those gorgeous booties were the perfect start to your outfit and I really love your accessories. For some reason in the winter I almost forget about earrings and necklaces and bracelets and go more minimal.

I cannot imagine being so cold because it’s so hot here right now. But it would feel so much more like Christmas is coming than what it feels like here!
    Gingerbread biscotti sounds so delicious!

What a fabulous velvety outfit, Jess! I love this combination of jewel tones on you. The boots really do bring it all together perfectly. I am glad that you had a nice trip to Pittsburgh. It was super cold here then it got kind of warm the past few days but it’s back to super cold again. I hope your dry needling session gets you back to good so you are ready for the next drive to Harleysville. Wishing you and your family a very merry Christmas!

Oh I think it will take a while before you can flap your wings love, lol. I’m glad you had a great time. The child is awful isn’t it, I hate it. I’m starting to like velvet a lot, it had to grow on me.
