Turning Heads Linkup-Transitional Fall Outfit- Wearing the Colors of Fall When It’s Still Summer

Hi friends,

As my English friends would say, ” It’s bloody hot!”

or poignantly said, by Miss Jane Austen, English novelist,  “What dreadful hot weather we have! It keeps us in a state of inelegance.”

I really just want to quote her when I am out, wiping the sweat from my brow. 🙂

Transitioning to Fall with COLOR

What’s a lady to do when we have visions of  cable knit sweaters and fabulous leather booties  dancing in our heads? As we impatiently await the next season’s way of dressing?

We must do what any good Southerner would do. Keep fantasizing, and in the meantime, wear the COLORS of Fall.

I typically love to do some transitional outfits in between Sept and October, but I did get a bit impatient this year.

September is still one hot month here  in NC, so instead I look through my closet for colors such as greens, mustards, red, and burnt orange.

Today’s look involves a satin type dress in a warm, toasty shade of rust. You know it is one of my favorite Fall colors, but I have to be careful not to overwhelm my closet with this shade. Think of leaf colors and go from there.

I bought this satin-line midi dress from one of my favorite stores, Mango. I liked the clean lines and simplicity, and saw myself styling it nearing Fall and into winter with boots and other layers.

The croc brown strappy sandals are also Mango and a great transitional shoe when its too hot to stifle those tootsies, quite yet.

I love to add a scarf for pattern and to add more interest to a look. I’ve had this one for years, from Poshmark.

I certainly would wear this dress in Fall and as it got chillier, adding a moto jacket and some tall boots as an option.

This outfit, again, combined a shade of brown ( rust) with black. Notice i Have done this with accessories. If you had missed my other posts on Combining Black with Brown, have a read.

I’ve styled it with and without the belt to show you how the addition of certain accessories changes the look.

Have you styled some Fall colors yet? In the hotter climates, how do you transition to Fall?

I’d love to hear from you in the comments.

Jess xx

This is such a beautiful colour on you! I love the darker accessories with the dress and the pretty scarf. It’s feeling quite autumnal here already – I’d much rather have another month of summer, it seems to have gone by so quickly! Thanks for linking up!

This is just gorgeous, Jess! I love that color on you. What a fabulous dress with the sheen of the fabric and the fit. I like it with the belt and without. It is still hot up north too, although, I think today is the last really hot, hot day. Like you, I am anxious to start wearing my cozy sweaters, fun moto jackets and ankle boots. – Amy

This is a gorgeous dress and the colour is just my kind of thing. I never have rules about wearing colours at a certain time to be honest.

These are your colours Jess, this dress is beautiful on you and I love the sandals. Our weather in the NE of England is feeling very autumnal, I’ve even worn boots a few times, hopefully the heat will return shortly, but you never know with our crazy weather. x

What a pretty dress! I can completely relate being in Florida. It feels like Fall actually never gets here, so I am all for just wearing the colors to get into the spirit.

LOl I love your comment about what the English would say, “It’s bloody hot!” and you’re absolute right!! I’ve been saying that a lot lately lol!
You look absolutely stunning in this outfit, Jess. I adore this gorgeous colour. Unfortunately, I haven’t quite been ready to style Fall colours just yet. But it is cooling down just a little these past few days so perhaps I’ll soon be ready!

This dress is such a beautiful color! That’s a great tip to use color to transition to fall when it’s otherwise still hot out… It’s been hot here too and I’m still soaking up all things summer!

Love the quotes!! They are so true, and even more so when trying to take photos for a blog post! Lol! This dress is gorgeous. I love it both ways, but the brown belt and sandals is really stunning. Beautiful way to style “fall,” Jess.

It is dreadfully hot here, too! Upper 90’s all week and my poor son has cross country after school in this heat! I love the fall colors in this dress, the belt is so flattering and really dresses it up even more! I am getting excited about fall clothing, even though it doesn’t feel like fall!

Here I am dreaming of layers (I just bought 2 light weight toppers (a denim/sweatshirt hoodie jacket and a plaid bomber) knowing I can’t wear them for a while! Love the idea of wearing more fallish colors: I usually am drawn to jewel tones.

Beautiful outfit, Jess! While I have no rust in my closet, it’s one of my favorite Fall colors. Of course moving to a state that actually experiences Fall may change that.

You shine in fall colors! This dress is perfect for the bridge season, and beyond. It’s hard to think about autumn with the current heat wave, but wearing fall colors in lightweight fabrics is the perfect solution. Thanks for the link up and have a good week.

That dress is stunning! You are so right, it’s all about wearing the colors of fall for us in hot climates and Jane Austen nailed it too – oppressive heat is inelegant!
Back to the dress – it looks like it was made for you – just gorgeous from head to toe!
