Turning Heads Linkup- Wearing White in Winter-

Hello friends,

Well, it has been one of those weeks! I am usually “on the ball” when it comes to posts, but I was running behind lately. I had Dry Needling PT yesterday, and had to come home and do photos for the blog. Usually, it is all about the Epsom Salt bath and a heating pad, after those hypodermic needles go in and out of my tensed up, trigger point riddled body, but I suppose “you gotta do, what you gotta do” sometimes, right? Before I get into what I am wearing today, I want to mention I am quite pleased with how my makeup has been looking for pictures. I have tried some new products from Sephora lately, and if you missed my post, see it HERE.

I couldn’t promise my husband, ( who takes my pics) that I wouldn’t be wincing when I lifted up my arm to place it on my hip to pose! Regardless, I felt it worked out fine and decided to write a bit about wearing white in the winter. I think, by now, we all know, that wearing white in the winter can look great! Add to it  to a bright color in the winter and chase away the winter doldrums. In, my case, I decided to layer with a brown wrap top ( Limited) and a ruffled brown tweed blazer ( The Limited) , adding a crinkled leather navy clutch ( Tressje), tan suede block heeled booties and a thin dark floral scarf, which I tied like a tie.  I love layers in the winter, not only for warmth, but for textural interest as well.

Other ways to incorporate white in the winter:

Wear an off white cape with denim

Faux fur is always fabulous in the winter months, and makes a great statement. ( wear an off white stole or coat)

Incorporate white jeans with a bold patterned top or sweater, thinking of white as a palette

Metallics with white keep the look fresh! ( try some silver, rose gold/gold brogues..)

Go with a black moto jacket, white jeans for a black and white winter look.

Add bright colors for a pop of color and artisitc look.

Off to Turning Heads Tuesday! Thanks for the comments and all of the participation. Again, please comment on 2 posts per blogger.

Feel free to post 3+ posts- beauty, lifestyle and fashion.

Thank you Ladies and Have fun, I’d love for you to visit Thursday when I will be sharing a clothing collaboration.

Jess, I adore this look on you. I love how you look in browns and rust colors and this jacket with the scarf is such a pretty combination. I guess we are all trying to get our white in the winter outfits in before it isn’t winter any more. I love this outfit and your accessories are the perfect compliment. You are such a trooper! I know we all do what we have to, but I want to say thank you for being real about your condition. Of course it isn’t easy, but you bear it with style and grace. You are amazing! Thanks for posting and sorry I am so far behind. It has been a busy week. Now the hubs and I are on our way to a cabin in the woods, where I won’t have internet for a few days. Just a good break to unplug. I’m typing this at a coffee shop along the way. Hope you have a great weekend! – Amy

I have never ever worn white in winter even though the weather in Sydney in winter is always above zero but I’ve seen few of other bloggers doing it and I am preparing to give it a try this winter season which is almost around the corner. I love your jacket Jess, the fringed edges make it look quite different

I’ll have to check out your makeup post, I love Sephora! I’m not sure what the dry needling was for, but I am sure you were wanting to relax after. I have my husband take my photos, too and it is always a struggle to find a good time and I look my best! Ha! I really love the cut and frayed edges of this jacket and the flower on it is lovely, too!

Jess, like you, I’m running a bit late this week too, but I’m so delighted to see that you’ve featured my outfit from last week – thank you sweetie! I’m sorry to hear that your treatment has left you a bit depleted. Perhaps by now things have improved.
Winter white is a complete anethema to me. I have no idea how to pull it off without looking like I’ve dressed for the wrong season. However, I can see that the addition of tweed and suede toughen up the look to change the overall feel. Very clever of you.
Your hair is indeed your shining glory as always. Have you done a feature on how you keep it that way? Post menopausal hair does seem to loose its lustre and I’m constantly dosing mine up with oils and deep treatments. I suppose that my daily swims (even with swimming cap) will have an impact too. Hey ho!

Thank you Anna, I am coming off a medication, and combined with the dry needling experiencing extra pain, but feel better today. So glad you like the outfit as I have been wanting to style white jeans, and tweed is one of my favs. I havent done a post on my hair exactly, maybe in the future. I know when I swim it is tough on it and I wear a swimcap, although the water still seeps in! xx

I hope you are feeling better now and I have never forgotten we had talked about styling a blue faux leather jacket together, I know it’s been a long time ago and I have been hating winter…let’s do it as soon as Spring kicks in? Lovely! I tend to not wear white, as I always think I’m too pale to pull it off. But this look with the really gorgeous tweedy jacket and print scarf is making me rethink. Having white on the bottom away away from my face could definitely work!
BTW, I have hideous trigger points that no amount of massage has been able to combat. They are excruciating as you well know. I’ve read about dry needling, but never actually heard of anyone who had tried it. Do you feel it really helps? I’m willing to try anything at this point.

    • Jess Jannenga
Posted at 10:23h, 28 February Reply

Theresa, thank you and I think you should go for it wearing a white trouser or white pants. I love white tops but always include color around the face, as I have fair skin as well. In regard to the dry needling, I have trigger points throughout my body with EDS. I can say, as I have been going to dry needling for 3 years, that it is my Saving Grace! I go every 2 weeks and it helps me function tremendously!

Posted at 10:57h, 28 February Reply

Wow, Jess. That is good to know. I was kind of afraid to try it. Mostly because of the needles! But at this point the pain is becoming debilitating, especially when working on the computer. All my trigger points are in both sides of my neck and shoulders. Will have to look into this more. Thanks for letting me know it works for you 🙂

Posted at 11:15h, 28 February Reply

Funny thing, is I used to have to look the other way when giving blood because of the needles, now its no problem. The first time is a suprise, but you get used to it and the benefit outweighs anything else. Best wishes!
