Channeling Joan-#MadMen Please Don’t Go!

IMG_6882

Hello Ladies

I am sure I am not the only one that is upset over this shows ending. No! I love everything about it.. the style, the era, the stories, Don Draper, Peggy, Joan, oh I am going to miss it! I l gravitate toward shows in the 40s-60s, Manhattan, Masters of Sex, and my favorite and topic of discussion: Mad Men.

. Today I thought in tribute to  ‘Mad Men last season, I would channel my “inner Joan”.

IMG_6883 IMG_6876

I could have had a better up-do if I had a number of stylists! So this “do” will have to “do”!

IMG_6889

Joan was usually wearing her bar necklace or toggle necklace and a brooch. I’ve got it covered!

These Zara shoes with square heel and open toes are reminscent of the 50-60s. ( Check out my new pedi too)

I know, I know, there are things we have in common, Some things not so much.  I have red hair. So does Joan. I like 60’s brooches, so does Joan. I love to wear jewel tones, so does Joan.

I like sheath dresses and 60s style, so does Joan.  I have been told I look good in green, so does Joan. I want to be successful at what I do. So does Joan. I like to have a drink in the afternoon, so does Joan.

Now, let’s explore some differences.  I do not work in a male dominated workplace. I do not like pointy bras. I am not quite voluptuous. I do not have a child.  Did I say I am not voluptuous? I don’t smoke.

I loved the scenes where nearly everyone was pouring drinks in their offices and lighting cigarettes.

One thing Joan and I do have more in common IS a more confident presence. I suppose it comes with time, but she rose to the top at   Sterling and Cooper ( when it was just that) to be the only woman at to be a partner at a New York Advertising Firm. ( Kudos to Peggy for being one female in a sea of male ad execs!)  became a single parent, and I am more confident now than in my twenties, and perhaps as they say, “It come with age”. I think it comes with knowing ones self, and being comfortable with who you are. That is something that we DO have in common.

Joan throughout the season was known for her wearing jewel tone colors. Many a scene were shot with her in red, royal blue, emerald-green and purple. We do love that! She often time had a scarf and always a gold brooch or pendant from her neck. There were times she wore floral, but many of her more iconic looks were in red and green. Love. Love. She had her hair up in a chignon most often, a look I am trying to replicate her.

How did I do? I could go on and on about the show, as I have been a faithful viewer and just love the nostalgia as well. But since this is about fashion, we will leave it at that. Mad Men is on Sunday Nights. Season 7, last one. Boo hoo!

If you were a character on Mad Men, who would you be? Why?  Whose fashion do you fancy on the show?

We had a great turnout last week for TURNING HEADS TUESDAY! Just a reminder, and a new time it goes LIVE at 1am EST> HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE TOMORROW!

What a beautiful tribute to Joan! She’s also my favourite character in Mad Men, although I’m rooting for all the women (even Betty). And I do love Joan’s style: I’m not a red head but I’m certainly built like her, and love the fact that finally we can find dresses suited for curvier girls, too…

This is a great dress, Jess. I am sure you are among many who are going to be sad about Mad Men leaving. I like to watch it at times…but I also find it to be real depressing. Your smile is much better than Joan’s!
