24 Apr Spotlight On: Over 40 Fashion: Lady of Style
This red trench is stunning, with a complimentary red structured bag.
Hello Ladies
I bring you my first installment, which I will be doing monthly of Spotlight On: Women Over 40. Today, I am spotlighting my friend and over 40 blogger, Annette from Lady of Style .
Annette was one of the first bloggers I spoke with and corresponded with a year ago when I started Elegantly Dressed and Stylish. I found Sylvia’s site, 40 plus style, a site that draws attention to women 40+, their style, and their blog, went through the task of listing my blog, then started to read all of these over 40 fashion blogs that I didn’t know existed. At the time I was following some young ladies, but was unaware of how many women there were blogging, over 40. Annette has been an inspiration to me, classic looks and keeping up with trends, she exudes a confidence and beautifully styled look.
This series, Spotlight On: Women Over 40, I hope to share with you, the readers, some wonderful women who possess a love for fashion and a keen sense of style. Each month, I will introduce to you a blogger over 40 with a passion for fashion, and their own unique style and personality.
A pretty blue print tunic with detail makes a great match with these black leather skinnies
As bloggers, one may keep up with trends, but make it more of one’s own style. The bohemian look here is lovely with this trendy cognac fringe bag and flared jeans.

I thought you would be interested in learning more about Annette, and this Lady of Style, so I posed some quesitions.
1. When did you first become interested in fashion and style?
As a teenager I loved putting together my outfits together at night for the next morning – we don’t
have school uniforms in Germany!
I live on the countryside and didn’t get much (none at all) inspiration from our village and taking
the train to Munich for a shopping day I definitely consider as one of my fashionable highlights.
Spending my pocket money on a summer dress or a pair of sandals has been such a pleasure…
2. Is there any over 40 fashion rule or style ( i.e. women at 40 should not wear mini skirts) that you don’t agree with? explain.
Until a couple of years ago I defended the term “age-appropriate” but I don’t use it any longer but
instead every woman should feel “age-amazing” which for me includes wellbeing and a healthy
lifestyle and is by no means limited to fashion.
Personally I don’t wear miniskirts any longer as I don’t feel comfortable but prefer a knee length. I
also don’t like ripped jeans (I will never get into that trend…) but these are my own decisions and
there are women who look fabulous in short skirts beyond 50!
3. Tell the readers something they do not know about you that may surprise them.
On my blog I don’t normally share a lot of my private life but recently I shared “7 personal facts
about me”
Ok, here is a bit more…
– I have a sailing and motorboat permit for more than 20 years but I get seasick
– I don’t own red lipstick or red nail varnish (bad fashionista I guess…)
– I am a native Bavarian but don’t drink beer

4. If an event happened where you could only wear 2 outfits for the rest of your life, what would they be? Why?
– Black trousers as they go with everything!
They can be dressed up with a silky top, heels and statement jewellery for going out, in a formal
way with a blouse and a denim jacket for doing errands.
– A wrap dress. So easy to wear, comfortable, feminine and stylish at the same time. A great choice
for every body shape. In summer I love these dresses with wedges or sandals, in winter they look
great with boots and a cardigan.
5. Did you have a defining moment in your life, where your style changed?
Not really as I always preferred a feminine, elegant style. I have never been a jeans, t-shirt &
trainers girl!
6. What is something that you are more willing to splurge or invest in?
Although I still mostly shop high street brands such as Zara or Mango, I love to invest more into
quality and comfort when it comes to shoes! When a dress doesn’t exactly fit, I tend to buy a bigger
size, take it to my seamstress and she will fix it. A pair of shoes has to fit 100%.
However, I’d never spend a huge amount of money on handbags… of course they shouldn’t look
“cheap” but I am not interested in expensive IT-bags.
7. What does “dressing down” mean for you?
I will still stay true to my style – except on a lazy Sunday morning 😉
On my blog I have done several styling series as I love to make the most of my clothes. For example
I’d wear a LBD with a denim jacket and ballet flats or pair a black pencil skirt with a knotted white
shirt.
8. How has your style changed throughout the years?
As mentioned before, I always preferred a certain elegance even when I was a lot younger.
Interestingly though, only now I became more open and adventurous than I have been over the last
20 years! I now try to add a bit of an edgy touch to my looks and love to pair a dress with a black
leather jacket or wear trendy booties instead of classic knee-high boots.
I love more the variety and follow a lot of bloggers and interesting Instagram and Pinterest
accounts for inspiration.
9. Do you think fashion has changed for women over 40?
No! I think women have changed!
We shop wherever and whatever we want, there is no limitation. But I wish brands would listen
more to the needs of women of a certain age. One of my favourite bloggers, the fabulous Alyson of
That’s Not My Age often talks about ageless style and features brands who cater for the needs of
changing bodies and provide a great quality in a contemporary style. Her new book “Style Forever”
is a must-read!
10. What colors do you find to be the most flattering on you?
Very good question, I wish an expert would tell me
I love black but also nude and white toned. Only a couples of years ago, I started wearing red and in
the meantime I love it! I always receive a lot of comments when I wear that bright colour. I have
also noticed that orange really flatters my skin. A dark purple only looks good in summer when my
skin is tanned and I avoid dark brown near to my face unless I wear a softer colour with it.

Posted at 14:41h, 25 AprilHey Jess, she mentions that she wishes an expert would tell her what colors are flattering on her. Please have her look into Dressing Your Truth, an energy profiling system designed by Carol Tuttle. Once she has determined her own energy type, there is a color portion of the system to follow. I don’t work for them, I’ve been dressing my truth for several months now and it has had a hugely positive impact on my life, more then how I dress and what colors I wear. I wish you both clarity, prosperity and vitality.
