Turning Heads Linkup-Pattern Mixing in the New Year

Happy Tuesday!

Yes, we did end up with a Winter Wonderland last week when hubby took these pics. I am not a cold weather person when it comes to taking pics, but couldn’t help but want to get photos surrounded by snow. Usually in Charlotte, when they predict snow of 4+ inches, everyone rushes out for bread, milk and toilet paper, and we get a dusting. This time, they were spot on!  The photos are a tad dark, but it was the best I could do in this weather. I decided to do some pattern mixing on the blog today, with 3 patterns mixed, including my new brocade booties. I have also included at the bottom of the post some other posts Ive done with pattern mixing.

I wore these Franco Sarto booties, HERE on the blog, pairing them with brown faux leather pants. I decided to mix 3 patterns together today and the boots would be one of those patterns. i loved the rust, burgundy, gold and navy tones in these boots as well as the ease and comfort of a block heel.

Before i get into pattern mixing, I wanted to share the maroon leather moto jacket  hubby gave me at Christmas. Since we have more mild temps here in NC, i have a bit of a collection of moto jackets more so than winter coats. I saw this on Mango, and pointed it out at some point, as i love the collar which can be a funnel neck collar that you buckle ( like i show here) or worn as a regular collar.( below) The maroon color was different and it looks better with my hair/skin than black,as its  a warmer shade. I may post sometime on moto jackets as they are a great investment.

Now, on to pattern mixing. I decided to mix patterns within the same color family. My skirt is an oldie but goodie from LOFT, a brown leopard skirt, which we all know by now, is a neutral shade. The colors in my floral sweater are similar to the colors in my brocade booties, burgundy, tan, browns. I added a pop of color with a teal pussybow blouse underneath the cardigan. The 3 patterns, floral, leopard and broacde all work together combining the same color pallete with different prints.

Trust me when I say my hair looked a bit better, but the snow kept falling as we took pictures, I just go with the flow!

Three different patterns with my floral cardigan, leopard brown skirt and brocade booties.

Do use use shoes/boots to add another pattern when pattern mixing? How do you feel about pattern mixing?

So pretty, Jess. It is always beautiful after a fresh snowfall. Your outfit is adorable. Actually you mixed four patterns, because your bag has a subtle pattern on it as well. Well done! Love those booties and I am a huge fan of moto jackets. I wear them like blazers to work. I think I have red, purple, black, brown, gray and maroon. Now I am thinking about a lighter shade like blush or ivory. Is that too many? Ha, ha. – Amy

Jess, you look gorgeous, as always. But you do look so cold lol! I must say, I’m glad I’ve left that freezing cold weather behind. It’s much sunnier over here in Portugal. Chilly out of the sun but still…. WAY warmer than the states lol!

Gorgeous moto jacket! The color on this baby is just beautiful! I haven’t done a lot of pattern mixing and I have to say I like what you did here. The florals and the brocade go well together. The colors and design pick off each other that it somehow balances the look. And no, I did not forget about the leopard! The print on your skirt is so subtle that I know it’s there but in a non loud way because it acts as a neutral.
