My Take on the Denim on Denim Trend

IMG_7369

Chambray top and :Loft Boyfriend Jeans

I remember when I had a pair of overalls, was probably about my mid-teens, and they were baggy, not an attractive look.  At the time I would have worn a button down light denim shirt with it, and this was a time where it wasn’t trendy to wear double denim.

A Favorite pair of soft floral strappy flats for added color

IMG_7379

I used to subscribe to Glamour magazine when I was younger and found the Dos and Don’t pages funny as they were often times very obvious. Back at the times of the terms “stirrup pants” “muffin-top” and ” fashion police” where are part of our fashion dialogue. Double denim looks were a “Don’t” but were often found in ways that were not very flattering to the wearer.

The double denim look now is casual, but can be very put together and done so in more of an eye-pleasing way. I hope to share with you one of those ways.

I do like wearing boyfriend jeans, the comfort factor is very important to me, and I do like a destructed denim look as well. As late as I am to the fashion game, I finally bought a chambray top by The Loft. This soft slightly fitted top is something I feel works well with boyfriend jeans. The proportions of a slightly more fitted look with a looser look of BF jean seems to work well and balance out the outfit.

Both the top and jeans are from Loft, and I decided to wear those floral flats you all seem to like, and that are a favorite pair of mine due to the soft floral pastel colors.,adding more color to the look, along with my new darker red GiGi clutch.

Here are some other double denim looks that may interest you as well.

I love the Chloe look with the rust gladiators and mini denim dress. Stella McCartney

trend-seeker-denim-on-denim Of this group, the second to the left looks quite chic to me, with the wider pants and boxier

How do you wear DOUBLE DENIM< and which of these looks do YOU like?

Have a wonderful day!

I have never tried layering two blue denims with each other, but I need to try. You really did great with this and I love your outfit. I still use the word muffin-top all the time! lol!

I’m a HUGE fan of the denim-on-denim trend, and you wear it well with those adorable flats. That Gigi clutch is also lovely. I’m actually giving away a $50.00 gift card to Loft (one of my favorite stores) if you’d like to enter. I still haven’t tried the double denim look, as it still brings back those memories from Glamour. I really like your boyfriends, with their nice baggy fit and distressed look. You look great!

I love your outfit! I’ve been wanting a chambray shirt, too. I will have to try that one on. I like the more fitted look with boyfriend jeans, too. Your shoes are wonderful, too. So great for adding a bit of color and pattern to a simple outfit. I prefer the double denim look when it’s two different shades, like you’ve done. I’m still not sure about wearing two denim pieces that are very similar in shade. I have a white denim vest that I usually wear only with non-denim, but I’m thinking of trying it with my jeans, too.

Thank you Wendi! This is more casual than what I normally wear, but I really liked the softness of the chambray top.I can’t wear heels because of my illness, but love flats anyway, so glad you like them. A white denim vest would even look great with some white boyfriend jeans , and then a pop of coloras well. thank you for stopping by xx

I have not tried this trend but you have convinced me that I need to! You nailed this look! I love the two tones of denim and the red bag! I have one of those clutches on my wish list! Thanks for linking up today! Susan

Hi Susan! Years ago I probably would not have tried it, but I think the trick is to wear a slightly fitted shirt with BF jeans. GIGI New York is an affilate of mine. I wanted a shade that could go year round and red is one of those colors. This is the smaller of the clutches, the All in One Clutch, but is quite spacious! xx

I must say that I’m generally not a fan of double denim, but on you it really looks great. The contrasting shades are the key to making it work. Also, as you point out, loose pants, fitted top and the reverse are essential to pulling off this or any polished look.

    Lovely, Jess.

I am not a big fan of denim-on-denim look but in your interpretation it looks really nice, a very clever combination. I also like how your boyfriend jeans look on you, not too bulky or loose, but just rightly.
