08 Oct Fall Trends – 2018 Would You Wear?
Hello friends!
One of my favorite things to research in fashion are the upcoming trends of each season. Although i love to have those necessary staples that i think are easy to mix in match in our wardrobe, trendy pieces can be fun to add as well. I don’t believe in spending loads of money on trends if it is something you think might just come and go, or you don’t see yourself wearing much. Let me get down to business and talk about some of the Fall trends for 2018 I am seeing in shops and hearing about.
Weekend Fun
Well, first off, I actually won something this weekend. I never. win. anything. Let’s see, there was this kind of Victorian Doll with white hair and a green gown with a parasol that I won from my hometown’s bakery when I was 7, but that has been it. And that isn’t a big deal, but I was excited, after lowering the prices on some of my Poshmark listings, ( my closet is Jess9642) I got a notice in my email that I won The Deals day contest and was awarded $100 credit for Poshmark! ( yes, more thrifting)
We also just got home from PA on Thursday night, a 13 hour drive over 2 days, leaving me exhausted Friday. I knew waned to go to do something low key this weekend, and we went to see “A Star is Born”. I had been looking forward to it, and Rotten Tomatoes gave it 95%. We go to the Epicenter, which has comfy couch like seats, a full menu and drinks, doing it up at the movies! Really enjoyed the film and I seem to be more of the romantic one that gets all teary eyed during certain movies. The next film I hope to see is the one about Queen and Freddy Mercury.
Fall Trends 2018
I do think some “trends” can be classic, therefore you might find those pieces that you long to wear or that you grab often. Just because it is a trend, don’t consider it a “throwaway” piece or one that needs to be put a the back of the closet after you have worn it a few times. Many of these Fall trends i have in my closet and could see myself wearing. What Trends would you wear? Do you currently have these in your closet? Which trend does not appeal to you?
Animal Print
Leopard, Snakeskin, Croc. I seem to see this trend pop up each year. Lots of leopard, which is one of my favorite prints. If you aren’t aware, animal prints, especially leopard, are considered a neutral. Paring any of these animal prints together, or with color would work quite well.
I own several leopard coats I have through thrifting. One a more cropped jacket and the other a swing vintage coat I found on Poshmark a few years ago. I have purchased some pieces recently – this midi dress from Zara, and an Equipment leopard silk blouse from The Real Real at a significant discount.
I am seeing more snakeskin prints in the form of shoes, belts, tops and pants. Button down dresses as well. I am thinking of a silk neutral snakeskin print. Do you fancy yourself more a feline or a reptile? 🙂 I actually have more snakeskin prints in my closet than I thought. Here is a subtle snakeskin print skirt I styled in an earlier post. You will see me style this and leopard, which I have added more of, this Fall season.
Check out these posts- Leopard Swing Coat and Velvet dress
Ruffles, Lace, Leather and Leopard
This is just a small bit of leopard I own.. You will see more on the blog this fall. See, leopard flats too! Here is a post that was just last week-
POP OF COLOR- Red like last year
Red is another color that trended last year, and we will see more red garments in the shop this Fall as well. I don’t have nearly enough red in my closet, but LOVE the color. It is bold, it makes a statement, and who doesn’t love a “Little Red Dress”? The color is so rich and eye-catching, think of statement pieces that are also classic. I may be asking “Santa” for a red structured bag this year.
I have some red pieces, but would love to add more. Red is so rich and is a color that will get you noticed! If you aren’t a fan of red on your body, add it for a pop of color with your look- ie.. earrings, a bag. Read Tweed and Valentine’s Look
CHECKS- Like last year, checks are back in vogue. I was tempted to get a blazer in brown checked, but I do have several plaid blazers I can wear from my existing closet. Lots of trousers in checked prints and coats. Boyrfriend blazers, skinny trousers and coats will be in the shops. I love this checked blazer from HM, but would be tempted to buy secondhand something similar. Read post- Dark Denim and Plaid Blazer Here.
WESTERN- Boots, belts, shirts. This is one of those trends I think I am going to pass on. I just have never been a fan of the ‘western” look although I have seen some really interesting cowboy boots on the Salamanca brothers from the TV show- Better Call Saul. If I was interested in Western style, albeit a bit more subtly, I have always been a fan of Frye boots. There are some great buys if you know where to find Frye- so check out 6pm for discounted styles.
TWEED-“a rough-surfaced woolen cloth, typically of mixed flecked colors, originally produced in Scotland.” Because of tweed’s heaviness, I don’t find I always reach for it here in NC. I love a great tweed jacket or skirt and have a tweed blazer in rusts, olive, brown tones I bought from LaFayette148NY via Poshmark for a song! I’ll have to remember to style it this year. It is one of those classic fabrics that never goes out of style. Think Coco Chanel. There will be various tweed outfits on the blog this Fall, with this burgundy tweet a favorite.

LEATHER OR FAUX LEATHER- Who doesn’t love the look of a moto jacket? Whether it is faux or real leather, jackets are looking good this year. I have picked up a moto jacket from the Nsale for the past 2 years. I love the sleek look of leather and the rough and toughness you can get combined with a more elegant or feminine style. Look for leather trousers, jackets in the stores this Fall. I also love the look of dark florals with a leather moto jacket? I also have some pencil skirts I will be styling for Fall. Faux leather leggings are a staple you will see alot this Fall, and I enjoy wearing my black Ann Taylor pair styled many ways. Read Faux-leather Pants
FAUX FUR- I am all for faux fur. I just like it looking a bit more natural in leopard print, that’s me. A big trend last year, it will be in the shops this year. Fun to wear, I’ll be styling my stoles and jackets throughout the Fall and Winter seasons. If you love trends, colorful faux fur jackets may be your thing. I just LOVE faux fur stoles added to jackets and sweaters, or like this sweater from Anthropologie which came with a detachable faux- fur stole. Read-The Chai Boot by Jambu
These are some of the trends you may be seeing this season. I’ll be on the lookout for others.
Which are your favorite? Are there any trends you are aware of for the upcoming season that someone would have to pay you to wear?
Tell me about it in the comments!

Posted at 10:19h, 08 OctoberThank you Lisa! I was excited, as I do a fair amount of shopping on Poshmark. I know, it was funny that I still remember the doll I won. Posted at 04:41h, 08 OctoberI’m so happy you won that $100 credit with Poshmark – I can’t wait to see what you get!!! You have all the trends covered my friend and beautifully done I might add. Those western boots on the Salamanaca brothers were really something, weren’t they? Gosh I love Better Call Saul! I am really wanting a check blazer this year, don’t want to invest much because I won’t wear it very often but it’s on my radar along with a pair of white booties!
I want to see A Star is Born – I love the comfy recliners at the theatre!
